A BRANCH OF THE STURGILL FAMILY

Descendants of

FRANCIS STURGILL Sr. and REBECCA HASH

Volume 1

The preliminary edition of the Sturgill family history was published in 1960 by David Andrew Sturgill in College Park Maryland

The first revised history of our family was published in 1983 by David A. Sturgill of Piney Creek North Carolina and Mack H. Sturgill of Marion VA.

As a result of much additional family information recieved since 1983 it became necessary to publish this second revision in two volumes. As more than half of all the Sturgills in the USA are direct descendants of Francis Sturgill Sr. only they are listed in this Volume 1.

Much of the additional information listed in this book results from the excellent research done by Hattie L. Bolling, Professor Emory L. Hamilton and Margaret Hubbard to name a few who contributed to this record.

Those of you who have copies of or have seen the earlier versions of our family history will note that I have used a much immproved format in this third edition which makes it much easier to trace your own family lines or to determine your kinship to other family members. These changes are the result of many suggestions received from several sources.

As many dates are still unknown to me space has been provided for past, present and future ates of birth, marrieage and death dates to be filled in by those who have records of their own families.

When I began this second revision of our history over four years ago I had no plans to have it printed beyond a few photocopies for my own family as I must now live on a limited income and can not afford the printing bill. For the fact that you are holding this book i nyour hands thanks are due to the generosity of cousin Neva Sturgill Clark of Palatka FL and to my brother James T. (Jim) Sturgill of Bristol TN who agreed between them to advance the money for the printing bill.
