James Stodghill and his wife Mary Croxton lived their entire lives in Essex Co. VA on the Piscataway creek farm he had inherited from his father Daniel. This farm was sold by two deeds, one in 1797 and the other in 1809. These deeds were made by John Stodghill of Lincoln Co. KY and his mother Mary Stodghill of Essex Co. VA as heirs of James Stodghill, deceased. The Essex Co. Will of James Stodghill dated in 1783 names only his son John but mentions other minor children.
There are some questions about this family. Others have identified Mary Coffman as the second wife of John Stodghill who moved from WV to KY. -p.36
