Narrative
Ambrose Stodghill and his wife Susannah Denton made their first home in Albemarle Co. VA but the exact location is unknown. In 1777 they bought a farm of 180 acres on Byrds creek in Goochland Co. VA (area became Fluvanna Co in 1777) This farm was located near the present town of Elk Hill on the James River. They lived out their lives on this farm and passed it on to their son Charles. Census records show that they had seven children, four of which are recorded in the Douglas Register and there is no question about the others. -p. 36
