Narrative

REBECCA STURGILL and her husband William Weaver Jr. made their home in present Alleghany Co., NC on a farm on New River and the south east side of Grassy Creek. All of their children were born on this farm.

In 1828 rebecca died as a result of childbirth and was buried in the original Sturgill family cemetery about a mile down the river from their home. William later remarried to Sarah Johnson of Surrey Co., NC and moved to another farm he bought located about ten miles up the south fork of New River. He said that he "wanted to be where he could get a Doctor when he needed one." William was buried with his second wife in a family cemetery on this south fork farm now known as the Fred Weaver farm.
