Narrative

BYRUM STURGILL and his wife Martha Pennington, lived their lives on a farm in AShe Co. NC on Helton Creek. He served several terms as Sheriff of Ashe Co. and as postmaster of the Sturiglls Post Office. He was a very prominent man in Ashe Co. and active in all the civic affairs of the community. They were buried in the Sturgill cemetery on Helton Creek. Their children were all born in Ashe Co. - pg 118
