Narrative

MARTHA JANE STURGILL and her husband, Dr. Hugh M. Hanks, first settled in Ashe Co. NC but soon moved to Alleghany Co. The farm where Dr. Hanks maintained his home and office is now the High Meadows Country Club. Martha Jane was buried in the Crab Creek cemetery, after her death Dr. Hanks moved across the mountain into Wilkes Co. where he lived out his life. He was buried in the Center Church cemetery. - pg 118
