Narrative

PHOEBE STURGILL married her cousin Fielding Sturgill probably in Grayson Co VA but no record has been found. It is family tradition that they left Grayson Co, VA. with Lewis Sturgill, father of Fielding, about 1810 and settled first in Scott Co. VA but no record of either Fielding or his father has been found there. Lewis appears in Hawkins Co. TN in 1823 and Fielding first appears in Morgan Co., KY in 1837 and next in th e 1850 census of Lawrence Co., OH. In 1860 Fielding and his daughter Mary were living with his son William an Gallatin Co., IL. Census records show their first two children born in VA and the others in Ohio. -g 82

NOTE: Census records indicate that Phoebe died 1850-1860. No record has been found, but she probably died in Lawrence Co., OH. This family is recorded in more detail in Vol2, Descendants of Lewis Sturgill - DAS - pg 82
