Narrative

JAMES STURGILL was born in Ash Co NC but moved to Letcher Co. KY in 1847 with his widowed mother. In 1855 he returned to Ash Co. where he married Elizabeth Beeman. They made their home in Wilkes Co. NC. James enlisted in the Confederate Army during the war and was severely wounded, he later died in a military hospital in Parkersburg WV and was buried in a Confederate cemetery there. - pg 104
