Narrative

JOHN STURGILL and his first wife JANE DeBORD probably made their first home on his fathers land on the south fork of New River, but in 1844 he received land grants near Piney Creek and moved to this farm where he built his house and lived the rest of his life. After the death of Jane in 1854, he married her younger sister, Mary DeBORD. John and Jane were buried in the old South Fork Baptist cemetery. Mary was buried in the Crab Creek Cemetery.
