Narrative

JOSEPH KING STURGILL, known as Joel, and his wife Matilda Jones made their home on a farm on Kings Creek. During the civil war, Joel was called to duty with the Confederate Army and none of his family ever heard of him again. In 1953 his grave was discovered in the Confederate cemetery near Richmond VA. Joel had been killed in the battle of Richmond. Matilda never remarried.
